  • JRI-Poland: Launched in early 1995, JRI - Poland is the largest fully searchable database of indexes to Jewish vital records accessible online.
  • Steve Morse One Step Web Site: Use Steve Morse's brilliant site to more easily help search for many records, including Ellis Island ship manifests. Many tools are included.
  • The Statue of Liberty - The Ellis Island Foundation: Search for original and typed ship manifests. Page through those lists also.
  • Ancestry: The World's Largest online family history resource.
  • The New York Public Library: The New York Public Library (NYPL) is digitizing all of the 1940 New York City  telephone directories.  They have them available on their website.
  • Fold3: Find military documents.
  • LDS Family History Search: Free Family History, Family Tree, Genealogy Records and Resources from Around the World from the Mormon Church. The genealogy web site of the LDS Church. Search the index for records you can use.
  • United Stated Holocaust Memorial Museum An overview of the digital and library resources of the US Holocaust museum.

  • Arolsen Archives: You can search for the names of victims of Nazi persecution in their portal.
  • The World Memory Project: a joint venture between the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and Ancestry.com, now has more than one million records online.
  • Yad Vashem Pages of Testimony: Search for family names and possible relatives lost in the holocaust.

  • Cyndi's List: A categorized & cross-referenced index to genealogical resources on the Internet.
  • US GenWeb Project: A group of volunteers working together to provide free genealogy websites for genealogical research in every county and every state of the United States.
  • Family Genealogy and History Internet Education Directory
    •Genealogy Pages in Facebook: A PDF list of pages listed by state.
    •State Census Info: A listing by the census bureau of all the State censuses.
  • Genteam.eu: A site with German databases including baptized Jews in 1851 and Jewish indices of Prague for the years 1784 - 1804.

  • Latvian Holocaust Victims: The purpose of the Latvia Holocaust Jewish Names Project is to recover the names and identities of these members of the Latvian Jewish Community who perished and to ensure that their memory is preserved.

  • Canadian Archives: Searchable data base of Immigrants to Canada before 1865.
  • Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island; Yearbook Project: The JGS of Long Island undertook a project to list the yearbooks held by its members and others. The list is on-line. The requests go to the people holding those books. Read more at the link.
  • World-Wide Genealogy Resources: The WorldGenWeb has hosts for about half the countries in the world. In addition to sites for individual countries, WorldGenWeb sites exist for many regions.
Researching Newspapers
  • Newark Jewish Newspapers, A project of the Jewish Historical Society of Metrowest (NJ). Search 2 old newspapers. 
  • Data Visualization: Growth of Newspapers Across the U.S.: 1690-2011: Has taken the 140,000 publications in the Chronicling America database and plotted them over time—from 1690 (one title) to 2011 (13,670 titles)—and over space as the nation expanded westward.
  • Chronicling America: Library of Congress project to digitize newspapers from 1836-1922. The database now includes more than 15 million pages of newspapers from 25 states.
  • World Cat: WorldCat connects you to the collections and services of more than 10,000 libraries worldwide.
  • Elephind: 1,904,517 Newspapers — 1,830 Newspaper Title
  • Europe Free Online Historical Newspapers: Some on these lists are indexed and full-text searchable, some are browse only; some have English translation capability, some do not. Some are easy to navigate while others may present quite a challenge.
