The Jewish Cemeteries of Newark
Alice Gould, and her late husband Bob, initiated the indexing of the Newark cemeteries many years ago. Not enough can be said about all the effort Alice has put into arranging for volunteers to come and help her do the indexing, arranging for necessary police protection, and coordinating data entry. Many of us from the Jewish Genealogical Society of North Jersey have helped her through the years. All this has resulted in over 30,000 Newark records being available on JOWBR, a free data base on Jewishgen. (http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Cemetery/) To search you need a free account.
Alice is the maven of Newark cemeteries. She has always answered inquiries from all over the world. She has added to so many people’s research successes. We all admire her energy and devotion to Jewish genealogy!

You should only visit the cemeteries with police protection between Rosh Hashanna and Yom Kippur. It is not safe to visit any other time.
